World`s Largest AC/DC Convention, NEWI, Wrexham, 6th / 7th / 8th August 2004
Eat Cat 2 Promotions presents.. 3 days of rockin mayhem with 10 of the world`s top AC/DC tribute bands, performing live on a replica AC/DC stage! Headlining the weekend is Dave Evans – AC/DC`s first singer (pre-Bon) plus AC/Dshe –the San Francisco based female tribute and Hayseed Dixie – the Nashville based hillbilly tribute!
This will be the only opportunity to see these bands, as they visit the UK for this event! There will also be seven other AC/DC tributes from the UK and Germany, plus “The one and only” Steve “Krusher” Joule (OZZFEST / Kerrang! / Noisy Muthas) who will MC the event in his own mad way from the stage!
There will also be an extensive record / merchandise fair, exhibition, films, seminars and music workshops.
EXCLUSIVE: Rare Photography /Artwork Exhibition and Seminars
Three of the rock world`s most respected photographers and graphic artists are visiting the North East Wales Institute in Wrexham this August to host an exhibition of exclusive AC/DC photography and album artwork as part of the World`s Largest AC/DC Convention.
Fin Costello (Classic Rock / Rolling Stone / NME / Sounds), Dick Barnatt (Kerrang! / Classic Rock / Metal Hammer) and Steve Joule (Art Director – Kerrang! / OZZFEST MC) will be exhibiting rare examples of work from the early years of the bands` history- from the mid 1970`s, right up to the late 1980`s. This will include some images which have never been published before, as they give a unique insight into the band!
They will also be hosting two seminars on the Saturday and Sunday, during which they talk about working with AC/DC and the stories behind the images in the exhibition.
Dick Barnatt has worked with AC/DC on many occasions throughout their 30 year career, but was the first to photograph the band when they arrived in the UK to promote the “Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap” album in 1976! He says, “I was called to do some publicity shots for them in London the day after they arrived in the UK, but Bon had been in a fight at the airport and had two black eyes which he`d had to cover up with shades! He still had his swagger and was full of confidence, maintaining that the other guy came off a lot worse.. which when looking at him, I could well believe!”
Fin Costello was asked to photograph the band in 1978 for a single release, during sessions for the “If You Want Blood” album and explains how the sessions came about, “The studio we ended up using was originally booked for use by “The Tourists” (Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart) but they had to cancel at the last minute leaving the set intact, which was a white studio covered in red paint which had been applied to the walls in the style of Jackson Pollack..! AC/DC came in to view the studio, saw the walls... and the rest as they say.. is rock history!”
Steve Joule has worked with numerous bands over the years as a freelance graphic artist, designing album sleeves for Ozzy Osbourne, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Gary Moore and Hawkwind. He also designed tour programmes for AC/DC, Motorhead, Sammy Hagar, Hawkwind, Iron Maiden, Girlschool, Accept, WASP and Anthrax, as well as many for the “Monsters Of Rock” festival at Castle Donnington. He spent ten “gloriously debauched” years as Art Director for Kerrang! and presented the most successful TV Rock show “Noisy Muthas”. He will be showing his original artwork and designs for AC/DC`s “Fly On The Wall” tour programme.
The AC/DC convention will be a very rare opportunity to view this unique collection of work, much of which has never been exhibited before and will be seen for the first time this August in Wrexham. There will also be an opportunity to purchase prints of the work, which the guys will be more than happy to sign for you!
Tickets for the event are now available from Phase One Records, Wrexham (01978) 264940 and online from Ticketmaster and Paypal priced from £14-00 per day. For further information, please visit the website: www.acdcconvention.co.uk
