I have arranged and produced many string tribute recordings for Vitamin Records and I really enjoy doing them. Having the opportunity to do the string tribute to AC/DC meant a great deal to me personally. I remember so much about the 80s ... everything from that era; my graduation, my growth into manhood, my "short-lived" rock & roll stardom, my entire "being" was molded by occurrences that included the music of AC/DC's "BACK IN BLACK" album.

Bon's death scared me, but Brian Johnson came to the plate like a warrior and filled the void. "Back In Black" is not only the greatest Rock and Roll Record of its decade, but it marked a comeback for something that was bigger than life for me and everyone else my age, ... AC/DC would continue, and that's all that mattered!!! I remember the graffiti on the walls, everywhere; "Bon's gone...." ...It marked parking lots and every bare wall in every big city. I was even tempted to tattoo the statement on my body, but decided not to.

As a guitar player, I thought that Angus was "God-Like". His hands, ultimately gifted and unique. His riffs and execution under radical performing conditions were repeatedly flawless. Doing this String Tribute To AC/DC meant a lot more than "just another String Tribute"... It was a sort of mission and a personal tribute for me as a musician and a person who "musically" connected the songs of AC/DC to my life in a very special and personal way. I basically "Cut My Teeth" as a musician learning Angus' chops on the guitar.

Well ... I've also always wanted to try a few things doing the string tribute records .... And finally on this project I got to do them:

1. Record a String Ensemble with a drummer playing a trap set; "Hells Bells".
2. Record and conduct a large string group in an auditorium; "Back In Black".

The performers on this record went far above and beyond the call of the typical requests of any producer. I am especially grateful to everyone who was willing to literally deprive themselves of sleep by showing up for my 3:00 a.m. recording session (because that was the only possible time for me and 25 of my closest friends to use the Auditorium that I got to record the title track for this record; "Back In Black"). Here are all the musicians who worked on this recording:

  • David Davidson - 1st violin
  • Dan Furmanik - violin
  • Gary Garrison - violin
  • Mary Garrison - violin
  • Barry Sines - violin
  • Ann Furmanik - violin
  • Graham Lessert - violin
  • Melody Martin - violin
  • Ann Trice - violin
  • Kristin Lagan - violin
  • Paul Tobias - viola
  • Keith Dunnington - viola
  • Hunter Kirkpatrick - viola
  • Gracie Ann Brown - viola
  • Kristin Lagan - viola
  • Tim Martin - viola
  • Joseph Martin - viola
  • Andre Janovich - cello
  • Melissa Helwig - cello
  • Kenneth Rubenstein - cello
  • Brock Dunnington - cello
  • Victor Dunnington IV - cello
  • Paul Johnson - bass
  • Thomas Saunders - bass
  • Criss Cheatham - Drums
  • Todd Mark Rubenstein bass and cello

I would like to personally thank everyone who worked with me on this project for their patience and commitment to excellence. Angus Young, Malcolm Young, Bon Scott, Brian Johnson, Cliff Williams, Phil Rudd for and all the rest of the great musicians who performed with AC/DC for a lifetime of musical genius and the gift of great songs with brilliant performances that will be an inspiration to musicians of all genres for generations to come.

This was a huge undertaking for everyone involved. When I had the opportunity to get a "world class" auditorium to cut the title track; "BACK IN BLACK", it was on a "ZERO $" budget for the room. My friends came together to make the dream a reality. I got the room, but I was only able to get it at 3:00 A.M., in the morning. I told all of my musician friends and family what was happening and they were totally up for the call. They showed for the session and we worked until 6:30 A.M. and cut the tracks I needed! ... GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU ... THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I LOVE YOU!

I would like to especially thank David Davidson, the primary melodic element on this project. David's hands are like a precious gem that lives hidden in a place similar to a rushing river, only to be found by someone to generate the kind of excitement that flurries into a "World - Class" movement like the California Gold Rush.

Also, Joel Spielman, the man with a mission at Vitamin Records. Joel brought my idea to the table at the label and made this project happen ... without Joel Spielman, "Back In Baroque" would not have happened ... Thank You, my brother; JOEL ... I love you and so do the people around you!

I would like to thank my wife Melodie, who takes the good with the bad, ... combines it all ... and somehow makes it ALL GOOD!

Special thanks to my dear friend, Mark Thornton who has always been there for me and Dan Furmanik who would die before he saw or let something go wrong around his friends. ... Very beautiful people! I also can not forget to thank my most absolutely wonderful and loving parents; I Love You Mom & Dad!

I am very grateful to Vitamin Records for their continuing patience concerning the completion of my records that I do for them. Sometimes it is difficult to make all of the elements that are necessary for a record, to come together and be timely. Vitamin Records and its staff have stuck by me all the way and I totally appreciate that and would like to take this final opportunity to recognize you guys, THANK YOU VITAMIN! I LOVE YOU!
