On the 6th May 2006, local bands entertained the crowd by playing during the day and at night in Kirriemuir on the Bon Scott Memorial day. Earlier in the day
Sonnet 65 entertained the crowd just prior to the unveiling of the Bon Scott plaque in Cummberland Close. Entertainment continued throughout the afternoon and later at night the
events were rounded off with the AC/DC tribute band Volts. Below is information on three of the bands that played that night.
![]() SAZ Based in Dundee, Scotland A hard-working and hard rockin' unsigned band from Dundee, playing their own original songs. If you like your rock music hard and loud then check out the band's web site. The band are actually all AC/DC fans themselves although their music style is a bit different. During the Bon Scott memorial day, members of the band attended the unveiling and generally hanged around in the town wearing their own "saz - Gotta get a grip" T-shirts. ![]() Sonnet 65 Based in Kirriemuir, Scotland A young band from the town of Kirriemuir, Sonnet 65 not only played during the gig at night but they also entertained the crowd in the town square just prior to the unveiling of the Bon Scott plaque. The choice of performing "Highway to Hell" just prior to the plaque unveiling was very apt and very fitting for the occasion. The band actually has an unique feature in that they have a female electric violin player in their line-up. Although they sound nothing like AC/DC it is still good to see a local band giving it a go. ![]() Volts
AC/DC Tribute band Volts brought the Bon Scott memorial day to a close by performing a full set of Classic AC/DC - Bon Scott era songs. Ok you can never replace the real thing in seeing AC/DC live, but Volts came and rocked Kirriemuir in the spirit and sheer energy that was in keeping with their idols.
