AC/DC Guitar Lesson Auction
AC/DC RAISES OVER $40,000 ON EBAY - (1st March 2000)
Wade Sickler gets lesson from Angus Young
New York, NY, March 1, 2000 - The chance to win a personal guitar lesson from AC/DC icon Angus Young ended in a frenzied bidding war on ebay yesterday, with the lucky winner putting up an incredible $28,100 for an opportunity to jam with the guitar legend. The high bidder, Wade Sickler, from Washington state, was announced on MTV’s Total Request Live at a special AC/DC in-store appearance at Virgin’s Megastore in Times Square,
where the band was celebrating the release of their 17th album Stiff Upper Lip.
The guitar lesson was the most coveted prize in a series of AC/DC auctions on ebay that has netted more than $43,000 for the Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Foundation. The auction soared $17,000 in the last half hour of bidding alone, with Sickler winning out in the final seconds. "I’ve been a fan of AC/DC for twenty years," said Sickler. "This was a once in a lifetime opportunity that I just couldn’t pass up."
Said Angus: "That’s a lot of loot. It should be a lot of fun for both of us."
