Hockenheim Review

setlist:
Hell ainīt a bad place to be
Back in black
Dirty deeds
Thunderstruck
If u want blood
Hells bells
Bad boy boogie + strip
The jack
T.N.T.
Highway to Hell
Whole lotta rosie
You shook me all night long
Let there be rock

1st encore:
Rock n roll damnation
For those about to rock

The crowd went totally crazy when AC/DC played - very cool athmosphere!!

In addition, Malcolm and Angus joined the rolling stones at " Rock me baby"!

AC/DC played about 1 and a half hours
Stones played about 2 and a half hours and ended without encore

Brian Johnsonīs voice was great and the band was in good mood
I think about 60% only came to the show because of AC/DC, and the fans were crazier and louder when AC/DC played

Just got in from Heathrow airport so excuse any mistakes!

Got to the site about four hours before the boys were due on, thankfully Yves and I managed to find a little bit of shade, it was well over 30 degrees, and we settled down to wait for the main event. The Pretenders came and were really good considering we were 200 metres away and to the side of the stage, much more 'Rock 'n' Roll' than I thought they would be.

Once they had laid the ground work Yves and I moved into position, we were lucky enough to have got front of stage tickets, in our little area (Cliffs side) at least half the crowd were wearing ac/dc shirts, there was a whole gang of Spaniards maybe 20 or more in matching "Calle De AC/DC" t-shirts just in front of us. Around half past six the boys strode onto stage to a great reception, Ang gave us a little bow and Hell Ain't A Bad Place To Be smashed out into the crowd. Second time I've heard this as an opener and I'm beginning to get to like this direct start to a gig, we were off and running. Brian said it was great to see so many friends there and that if the crowd wanted some rock'n'roll they coulsd get it "right here." Back In Black up next, quickly followed by Dirty Deeds, DDDDC much better up early in the set, after the first three songs it was clear that the Stones (much as I love their peak period) were never going to live with this. Thunderstruck followed, by this time it seemed as if the entire crowd apart from the people sitting miles away in the stands were joining in. First treat of the night up next If You Want Blood, a ripper obviously hope that this tune continues to make regular appearances in future sets. I just want to say at this point that Beano sounded fantastic, and the boys were having a great time up on stage, despite Mal and Ang having to change guitars after almost every song due to the heat. I think Bad Boy Boogie was next, forgive me if I'm wrong, Ang stripped, the song rocked, nuff said! Great performance from the crowd during the Jack, excellent solos from Ang. Up came the Bell from behind the stage, and looking back this was probably the only incredibly minor lowish point to the gig and I'm really splitting hairs here but for some reason the song seemed a little out of place, maybe its a bit too 'metal'? Who Knows? I'm guessing a little bit with the setlist now but I think it went Rosie, YSMANL and LTBR to end the set. Ang went down the gangway flopped on his back, put on someone's cap and tossed it back into the melee. And off they trotted.

A couple of minutes passed and back they came with Rock And Roll Damnation, absolutely fucking brilliant, I think I did a Pete Townsend scissor kick when it started (sorry about that if you were near me at the time). Needless to say this was the absolute peak of the show for me, love the song, love the album, love this fucking band. FTATR concluded the show, cannons and all. There was no point in staying around to see the Stones, and I am a fan, because there was no way they could follow that, I don't care how short their backing singers skirts were, or much Mick strutted around you can't follow the greatest Rock and Roll band in the world, its not possible.

Roll on the new album and the new tour. See you on the road.

Thought you might like an unbiased review (Ha Ha) from a Brit, use it if you want to.
