AC/DC was formed by the Young brothers of Malcolm and Angus young in late 1973. Angus and Malcom were both born in Glasgow but emigrated to Australia with their family at an early age. Malcolm and Angus decided to form their own band after seeing the success of older brother George Young in the Australian group the Easybeats.
AC/DC legend has it that the first gig performed by AC/DC was the Chequers club Sydney Australia on New years eve 1973. The lineup for the first gig was Dave Evans, Larry Van Knedt , Colin Burgess and the Young brothers Angus and Malcolm.
In 1974 the Young brothers and Evansd moved to Melbourne were they linked up with drummer Phil Rudd and bass player Mark Evans.

It was in late 1974 when the decision was taken to replace Dave Evans with a new singer by the name of Bon Scott was taken. Bon real name Ronald Belford Scott was currently working as a chauffeur to the band. Bon another ex-pat Scotwas by now a vetern of the Australian music scene with a degre of sucess with the Australian bands The Valentines and Fraternity. It was in 1975 that the first album High Voltage was recorded as a follow up to the first single Can I sit next to you girl. Now with Bon firmly at the helm the album drew on the experience the band had gained by honing their act in the clubs and bars of Australia.

Later in 1975 the second album TNT was released again as with the first with George Young and Harry Vanda on Production duties.

By now the popularity of the band was growing and it wasn't long before the record company Atlantic signed the band up and released an album High Voltage which took tracks from the first two Australian released albums.
In 1976 AC/DC released the Dirty Deeds done dirt cheap album however Atlantic in their so called wisdom elected not to release the album world wide. The album would however be released world wide follow the death of Bon Scott.

After being re-located to the United Kingdom in 1976 AC/DC spent most of the time on a low buget tour slowly but surely building up a strong fan base.
In 1977 after becoming tired of touring Mark Evans left the band and was replaced by ex Home bassist Cliff Williams. It was in 1977 that the band released the Let there be Rock album which featured some of Rock's most classic tracks in the shape of Whole Lotta Rosie and Let ther be Rock.

1978 saw the release of two albums first the studio album Powerage and the live effort If you want Blood you've got it. It was however the Robert Mutt Lange produced album Highway to Hell in 1979 that catapulted AC/DC into the rock band super league.

As fate would have it though on the 19th February 1980 saw the untimely death of the lead singer Bon Scott. Bon died after choking on his own vomit after a heavy drinking session just as he was begining to achive his lifetime ambition in becoming a succesful Rock Star.
At this point the future of the band was in serious jeopardy and it was only after a month or so that the Young brothers and the rest of the band decided that it would have been Bon's wish that the band should continue. After extensive auditions it was Newcastle born Brian Johnson the former singer with english band Geordie that stepped in to fill the most acclaimed frontman's job in the rock scene.

Brian's first album with the Band was Back in Black with the title and the cover design begin specially chosen to pay respect to the Late Bon Scott. The sucess of the album was almost un-believable with the album reaching number 1 in the USA and Australia.

1981 saw the powerful album For those about to Rock and the bands first headlining appearance at the Monsters of Rock Festival. After the release of the Flick of the switch album in 1983 drummer Phil Rudd left and was replaced by Simon Wright. Albums followed in the shape of '74 jAILBREAK (1984) and Fly on the Wall (1985) and Who made Who the soundtrack to the Stephen King film Maximum Overdrive in 1986.

In 1988 when Malcolm Young left the band for a short spell during the USA tour to promote the album Blow up your video he was replaced by is Cousin Steve Young (ex- Starfighters).

In 1990 drummer Simon Wright left to link up with ex Rainbow/Black Sabbeth vocalist Ronnie James Dio in his band Dio. His replacement was to be Journeyman drummer Chris Slade a vetern drummer who had played with a vast and varied selection of bands. It was also in this year that the Razor's edge album was released

During the US leg of the Razor's edge tour bassist Cliff Williams was temporary replaced by Paul Greg.

1992 saw the release of the Bruce Fairbairn produced live album Live drawing on material recorded worldwide over the course of the tour. 1995 saw the return of Phil Rudd on drums and the release of the Ballbreaker album. The album saw a welcome return to a more rawer sound which found favour with most of the bands loyal fans.

1997 brought about the jewel in the AC/DC back catalogue with the release of Bonfire a 5 CD box set featuring previously un-released tracks recorded with previous lead singer Bon Scott.

1998 sees the all of the AC/DC fans waiting for the the next installment in the bands recorded output.

1999 AC/DC Commence recording in Vancouver Canada for the follow up album to Ballbreaker

2000 The long awaited release of the new album "Stiff Upper Lip" was on the 28th Feb (Europe) and 29th Feb (USA). Elektra, MTV, Ebay and AC/DC teamed up to form an on-line auction where you can bid for a guitar lesson with Angus Young.
The album was premiered at a special listening party at the New York Hard Rock cafe.
AC/DC kicked off their world tour at Grand Rapids on the 1st August 2000. The tour would see the band travel across USA, Canada , Europe , Australia and Japan.

2001 The early part of 2001 saw the band playing in Australia and Japan. In the summer AC/DC returned from some American concerts to play large open-air concerts in Europe. The Milton Keynes concert saw the introduction of the Angus Statue cartoon at the start of the gig. A few old classics were added to the set list for the European concerts.
The end of the year also saw the release of a LIVE DVD of the Munich concert in June 2001.

2002 AC/DC signed a deal with Epic Records a division of Sony Entertainment which will see their back catalogue being re-issued and future records appearing on the Epic Records label.

2003 AC/DC are to inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame on the 10th March 2003.
AC/DC play a one off gig at the Roseland Ballroom , New York on the 11th March 2003.
