AC/DC Exhibition

5th February – 31st May 2009 at Proud Camden London England

In celebration of AC/DC’s world tour, Proud Camden presents AC/DC: Let There be Rock– a photographic portrait of a band so prolific their sales figures rank second only to the Beatles. This exhibition will take place to coincide with the UK culmination of the arena tour, and marks the anniversary of the original singer Bon Scott’s untimely death.

In reaction to the reception AC/DC have received throughout their career, Proud Camden will look not at the musical super power as they are today, but instead at a young AC/DC, a band who themselves could not have predicted the phenomenal worldwide success they were to achieve.

Shot through the lens of celebrated rock photographer Philip Morris, this collection shines new light on members of the original line-up, including unseen images of the late Bon Scott alongside his iconic band mates. In his career as a rock photographer Morris has amassed an unrivalled archive of Australian rock photography, this will be the first time these images are showcased in the UK and includes images not previously seen anywhere in the world.

An absolute must for fans of AC/DC old and new, this is the only chance to see the definitive exhibition of a band whose influence is unwavering at a time of huge importance to both the band and their followers.

Bon Scott Movie In The Making
by Paul Cashmere - December 4 2008
Film-maker Eddie Martin is working on a movie about AC/DC legend Bon Scott.

The yet-to-be titled movie is in its early stages. “We’ve been working heavily on it for a couple of months. It’s early days,” Martin tells Undercover News. “We are in the writing process. We’ve been meeting with Gaby, Mary, Irene and The Valentines crew, people like Vince Lovegrove, Bon’s early friends”. (Irene was Bon’s former wife).

Eddie says he is still looking for people from the era who knew Bon. “It is at research stage,” he says.

Casting is also being considered. Tom Budge (Three Dollars, Australian Rules, The Night We Called It A Day) is the front-runner for the part of Angus Young but Bon is still to be cast. “We have been considering casting and we are not going to contain this to Australia,” he says.

One of the things that has come out in his research is that despite the numerous books written about AC/DC, he feels no-one has actually nailed the real story yet. “Obviously we have gone through most of them, but talking to Bon’s friends they aren’t happy with the books and feel they have been misrepresented. We want to go much deeper with the movie,” he says.

The person Eddie is desperate to find went by the nickname Silver. “She is definitely the one person we want to find,” he says. “She was an Adelaide girl who lived with him in London after he broke up with Irene”.

It will be a number of years before we see the Bon Scott movie on the big screen. “We’d love to be shooting in 12-18 months,” Eddie says.

Ronald Belford ‘Bon’ Scott was born on July 9, 1946 and died on February 19, 1980.

Bon was born in Scotland and the family migrated to Australia in 1952.

Bon formed his first band The Spektors in 1964. Next came The Valentines, then Fraternity, and in 1974, he joined AC/DC, replacing original singer Dave Evans.

Bon died before ever really reaping the rewards that AC/DC would later bring. At the time of his death, the current album at the time, ‘Highway To Hell’ was just reaching Top 20 status in the USA.

Bon Scott was 33 when he departed the planet. He died after a night of drinking in a car outside 67 Overhill Road in East Dulwich in South London.

AC/DC Not playing T in the Park

Festival chiefs deny newspaper rumours

T In The Park chief Geoff Ellis has released a statement denying that AC/DC will play a headline slot at next year's bash.

Rumours that the Australian band will headline started after a newspaper reported that the rockers had been signed up to play at the Scottish festival.

The Sun had claimed today (November 25) that the band had signed a "top secret" deal to headline T, although Ellis has warned that fans expecting to see Angus Young and co will be disappointed.

"I can confirm that AC/DC will not be playing at T In The Park 2009," he said in a statement.

Ice memories for AC/DC's Angus Young

AC/DC guitarist Angus Young has told how the title of their new album was inspired by his native Scotland.

The Aussie supergroup will shoot straight to No. 1 tonight with Black Ice.

Angus, who formed the band with brother Malcolm, says the title reminds him of early days gigging in winter.

The pair were brought up in Cranhill, Glasgow, before emigrating in 1963.

Angus said: "It rolled off the tongue - it remindsme of radio warnings up north of black ice. It was deadly stuff."

Singer Brian Johnson feared the album would not happen after an eight year gap since their last release.

But he added: "On the first track the hairs on my arms stood up. I thought, 'is this a good band or what?'"

AC/DC Help Find US Soldier In Prison

by Paul Cashmere

AC/DC singer Brian Johnson has told an amazing story about a US prisoner of war in who was found, thanks to the song `Hell`s Bells`.

Speaking to motortrend.com, Johnson tells how soldier Michael Durant asked for permission to use the lyrics of the song in his book. He was a pilot who was shot down in Somalia and later consulted for the book 'Black Hawk Down'.

At motortrend.com, Brain says, “I said, 'Surely, but why would you do that?' 'Brian, they threw me in prison, my legs were broken, and they kept opening the door and shooting at me. That was terrifying. I sat there thinking, I'm going to die. My buddies back in the helicopter squadron hooked some huge speakers to the skids of the helicopter and flew over the city, playing 'Bambababam! ['Hells Bells']. They knew it was my favorite song. I crawled to the window, ripped my shirt off, waved it out the window. That's how they found me.' I still get goosebumps when I think about it," Johnson says.

Johnson was a recent guest of Howard Stern’s radio show. One listener called in afterwards to say that when he was on a tour of duty, they would play ‘Highway To Hell’ before going on a dangerous mission.

Johnson also told motortrend.com how he had heard that the CIA has been known to use ‘Back In Black’ as a weapon. "Someone said the CIA have AC/DC in the weapons inventory. When they got Noriega out of the building, they played 'Black in Black' till it drove him mad. Out in the desert when the Imams go ([Johnson pretends to chant], the troops just go [and he belts those first few power chords of 'Back in Black'] on the loudspeakers. You know what I mean?"

AC/DC’s Black Ice is out now.

AC/DC Are Back In Black Ice
We will know next week what the title of the new AC/DC album will be but 'Black Ice' looks like a front-runner at the moment.
AC/DC have three titles being considered for the album, another one being 'Runaway Train', Albert Music's Danny Keenan confirms for Undercover News.
Keenan says that we should know in the next week what the band would officially decide on. Albert Music CEO Tim Prescott will head to New York for meetings over the AC/DC release next week.
Danny Keenan says he has heard half the album but did not hear a song called 'Black Ice'. If it is being used as a title track then it may have been one of the later tracks recorded for the album.
'Black Ice/Runaway Train/insert third title here' will be the 15th studio album from AC/DC and their first since 'Stiff Upper Lip' in 2000.
The album was recorded in Canada at Bryan Adams studio with Brendan O'Brien.
Sony BMG says the album will be released this year. Keenan suggests we may hear the album as soon as October.

AC/DC to release new album exclusively via Wal-mart
They'll join The Eagles in strategic sales scheme
AC/DC will reportedly release their forthcoming album exclusively via Wal-Mart stores later this year.
The band will join the likes of The Eagles in selling their new album only through the American retail giant, the Wall Street Journal reported yesterday (June 8).
AC/DC revealed earlier this year that they have been recording new material in Vancouver with producer Brendan O'Brien (Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen).
This will be the veteran Australian rockers' first new album since 2000's 'Stiff Upper Lip'.

Monday 9th June 2008
NEW YORK (Billboard) - AC/DC's next studio album will be sold exclusively at Wal-Mart stores in the U.S., according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.
The as-yet-untitled Columbia album is expected in the fall.
AC/DC becomes the latest veteran music act to pact exclusively with the retail giant, following Garth Brooks, the Eagles and Journey. The Eagles' "Long Road Out of Eden," released in summer 2007, has been an enormous success, having sold more than 2.98 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The new AC/DC album is the legendary hard rock band's first since 2000's "Stiff Upper Lip," which has shifted more than 930,000 copies. A tour is expected to follow its release.
AC/DC is one of the few major acts yet to make its music available via Apple's iTunes Music Store. In August 2007, Verizon Wireless snagged the exclusive rights to sell the band's entire back catalog through March 2008, becoming the first and only digital music store to offer AC/DC's content.
But the deal was limited to full-album downloads. That requirement is one of the reasons that AC/DC's music has not appeared in digital form to date. Because full-album downloads are too large and too expensive to sell from mobile phones, Verizon sold them only from the PC version of its VCast Music service, for $12 an album.

AC/DC Set To Release New Album This Year
The waiting is almost over! AC/DC fans can expect the band's next album of new material sometime later this year. The band are currently recording in Vancouver with producer Brendan O'Brien and long time audio engineer Mike Fraser. This will be the band's first collection of new material since the release of Stiff Upper Lip in 2000.

Rock tribute to AC/DC star Scott
An Angus town is celebrating its place in rock history, with events dedicated to one of its most famous sons.
The third annual Bon Scott Weekend is being held in Kirriemuir. A number of young bands will be playing along with an AC/DC tribute and rock covers band.
Scott was born in the town in 1946 but moved to Australia when he was six and later became the singer with AC/DC.
He died of alcohol poisoning in 1980, aged 33, after a night of heavy drinking in London.

Two years ago, a plaque was unveiled in Kirriemuir dedicated to the frontman.
Victoria Melton, one of the organisers of the event, said: "Bon Scott is one of Kirriemuir's sons, and what better a man to pay tribute to.
"He's been a huge influence to a lot of people all over the world.
"We feel that he always remembered his roots and he had a strong character."
Her colleague Steven Gibbons added: "He's the singer that the band had that everyone talked about. He's obviously quite an important icon in rock music.
"Everyone who plays any rock influenced music, they can't really ignore the influence that AC/DC have had, especially the Bon Scott era music, which was really powerful, and it's still as powerful today as it was back then."

Fremantle Launches The Bon Scott Project

Bon Scott Project The City of Fremantle is presenting the Bon Scott Project, an event to mark the life and times of their historic rocker Bon Scott.

The Project, which will take place at the Fremantle Arts Centre from May 17-June 29, will features works from 19 artists honoring the late AC/DC singer.

Although Scott died in London and lived in Sydney and Melbourne in his day with AC/DC, he is still remembered as the boy from Fremantle.

Scott was raised in North Fremantle and was laid to rest in the city following his death in 1980.

The Bon Scott Project is designed to bring together the stories about Bon from the fans moreso than traditional media.

As part of the Project, fans can contribute to the Bon Scott Blog at bonscottblog.com.

The Project will also display Bon's private letters. The letters show has bawdy and humorous side but also offer an insight never before seen into the personality of the man.

There will also be one-off events during the Project. The Ugly/Sexy Factor: Bon Scott and Fashion will debate how Bon influenced fashion over the years with his skinny jeans style.

The Bon Scott Project has also commissioned a tribute band called FAC/DC. 'Facca Dacca' features Dom Mariani (The Stems), Steve Joines (The Kill Devil Hills), Vanessa Thornton (Jebediah), Clair French (Sure-Fire Midnights) and Warren Hall (The M-16s). Facca Dacca will play one night in honor of Bon.

ARE YOU READY !

Here is a report that appeared online at www.spinner.com

Australian hard rock icons AC/DC are getting closer to ending an eight-year drought of new music. "God, I'm ready," bassist Cliff Williams, who was in L.A. to participate at the Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp, tells Spinner. To that end, the group will hit the studio March 1.

Almost as long as the wait for new music is the band's absence from the stage. Tour plans, however, aren't as firm. "If we go out again or when we go out again," Williams said. "You just never know. We've been around a long time, so we're going to get together and get in the studio and I fully expect we will [tour.]. I don't mean to be so negative about that. [When] the last tour ended in early '01, you'd see kids on their dads' shoulders. And these kids were like 10, 12 years old. It will be tremendous to see that again. And it's very cool -- younger kids getting into older music."

Vikki from Melbourne is currently creating a new web site dedicated to the ship SS Asturias www.ssasturias.net
The ship spent a long part of of it's working life carrying emigrating passengers from the United Kingdom to Australia. As it happens this ship actually carried the Scott family when they emigrated to Australia from Scotland. If anyone has relatives/ancestors and have stories relating to the emigrating passengers then perhaps the web site will be of interest.

AC/DC is finally selling its music digitally. But not on iTunes.

Verizon Wireless has snagged the exclusive rights to sell the band's entire back catalog through March 2008, becoming the first and only digital music store to offer the Australian combo's content.

However, the deal is limited to full-album downloads, one of the reason's AC/DC's music has not appeared in digital form to date. Since full album downloads are too large and too expensive to sell from mobile phones, Verizon is only selling them from the PC version of its VCast Music service for $12 an album.

Classic Rock Cares Brian and Cliff to perform at Charity Concerts

The John Entwistle Foundation is a mission devoted to providing free music education and instruments for underprivileged children through the public library system in the United States. The organization is proud to announce a special summer fundraising concert tour featuring several rock legends on one stage:

- Brian Johnson & Cliff Williams of AC/DC
- Mark Farner formerly of Grand Funk Railroad
- Joe Lynn Turner formerly of Deep Purple/Rainbow
- Steve Luongo of The John Entwistle Band

June 30th Barbara B Mann Theater Ft Myers, Florida
July 3rd Ruth Eckerd Hall Clearwater, Florida
July 6th Hard Rock Hotel & Casino at The Joint Las Vegas, NV
July 13th Trump Marina Cayman Ballroom Atlantic City, New Jersey
July 15th & 17th BB Kings Times Square, NYC
July 19th Turning Stone Casino Verona, New York
July 21st The Chance Poughkeepsie, NY

This unique show uses a single backing band comprised of world class musicians led by drummer Steve Luongo of The John Entwistle Band. Doing this allows some of rock's premier voices to walk on stage and sing only their biggest hits. Joe Lynn Turner sings the best of Deep Purple and Rainbow. Mark Farner takes the stage to sing and play guitar as he launches into the most memorable Grand Funk Railroad hits. The final set features Brian Johnson and Cliff Williams, Steve Luongo and Mark Hitt who perform mega-chart busting AC/DC hits along with their own new material.

After almost two solid hours of non-stop classic rock all of the musicians join together for the encore, Highway To Hell. Classic Rock Cares will perform a limited number of shows during the month of July. These concerts raise money for the John Entwistle Foundation. The John Entwistle Foundation was named for the late bassist of The Who. In addition to the primary mission of free and easy access to music education, the foundation has also raised significant funds for disaster relief including donations to The Red Cross and The Florida Hurricane Relief Fund. The John Entwistle Foundation is a United States Government approved 501(c)(3) non profit foundation. For information and tour dates visit: www.johnentwistle.org / www.joelynnturner.com

AC/DC Rumours ?

In keeping with previous periods of inactivity with the band. Rumours about the band do tend to surface

Over the last few days the following has been rumoured, as to how accurate the rumours prove to be time will tell.

Possible DVD Release in September and New Album early 2008

Also The Melbourne Sunday Herald Sun 6th May printed the following:
"AC/DC will tour next year - with plans to take the show to the Red Centre. Concert industry sources at Coachella said AC/DC leader Angus Young wants to do major centres and has asked promoters to put Alice Springs in the tour schedule. Asked about the significance of Alice Springs, Young says it's a gesture of giving back and he wants to take a major tour off the main road. The tour is likely to happen early next year."

Thanks to all the AC/DC fans and various AC/DC web sites for passing on the information.

Truth / Rumour or Wishful thinking..!! but...
The Mirror newspaper in the UK (Irish edition) featured a report that promotors where trying to get AC/DC to play Slane Castle. ROCK superstars AC/DC have been asked to headline next summer's spectacular in Slane.

Bosses are banking on the group to sign a contract for a massive one-off show before 90,000 fans and help it become Ireland's music Mecca again.
Secret negotiations have been taking place to lure the Let There Be Rock stars to Ireland for a rare appearance.
Slane suffered a huge blow over the past two years when Eminem cancelled a sold-out gig in 2005 and no act signed up this year.
A source revealed: "At this stage AC/DC are the number one target for Slane 2007. The show would be a huge hit and help Slane become the talk of the music world again.
"AC/DC are one of the biggest selling bands in history and they would definitely sell somewhere as big as Slane out."
AC/DC have sold over 160 million albums since they launched in 1973.
They are also negotiating outdoor concerts in London, France and Germany next summer.

The National Trust of Australia (NTA) plans to replace a plaque honouring former AC/DC frontman Bon Scott that was stolen from Fremantle Cemetery in Western Australia at the weekend.

It has taken 26 years for the gravesite of the late rocker to be listed as a heritage and cultural icon and only five months for the plaque to be stolen.

NTA spokesman Carl Haynes says it is WA's first contemporary listing and needs a plaque.

"We're talking to the cemeteries so in the very near future we'll arrange for them a replacement," he said.
