Molson Center

AC/DC delivers two hours of riff-heavy rock'n'roll

It was a festival of anthems. Australian rock'n'roll unit AC/DC founded its nearly 30-year career on the hard rock riff. Last night, before 11,000 at the Molson Centre, the band gave a two-hour demonstration of the multiple uses of the power-chord and, by extension, how to make every song an anthem.

Former Guns N' Roses lead guitarist Slash opened with his band Slash's Snakepit - an unintentional (or was it?) farce of rock'n'roll buffoonery. Power chords got lost in the shuffle as guitars screamed alongside the lead singer's voice.

Review of my first DC show ever

I left work early so I wouldn't have to drive through the traffic at peek hour... I arrived in Montreal at about 16h30 and parked at the Molson Centre. I had the chance to hear the band practice, although no one was allowed in the arena. Next step was to find something to wear for the concert. I went to a store and bought a very cool FTATR t-shirt, cost me 25$+tx.

As I was leaving the store, my brother called me to tell me that my BOD shirt had arrived.. Well, if they had been a few hours earlier I would have got it for the concert. (BTW, I didn't see anyone with a BOD shirt). I called my weed dealer to buy some stuff, but unfortunately he didn't have anything left, so I had to buy some from a punk girl in the street. It wasn't that bad.

Now for the concert, Slash's Snakepit were okay.. They played Mr. Brownstone.

AC/DC came on stage the same way they did at the other shows, it was fucking great to see them in such a good shape. During WLR, I thought that Brian had lost his voice, but it turned out he only had problems with the sound system (distortion in his voice). The setlist was the same, but no GIH. Replaced by SINYC.

During SDIF, HAABPTB, BBB and SB, I had the impression that I was the only one who knew the songs... As soon as I heard the intro, I started headbanging and screaming, but the rest of the crowd seemed motionless and was looking at me in a weird way.. But I didn't care!

Brian introduced HAAR as "This is a song from our last album". I thought he was going to play something from SUL :-/ Angus got to sing during HAAR, DDDDC and the end of SB (in a very high-pitched voice, "I got the new satellite bluuuuuuuuuues!").

Security was very cool, they didn't even frisk anyone. But I was out of luck for the pictures, because when I asked my friend to give me the camera, he said he forgot it in the car! And I just didn't want to leave during DC's performance, so no pictures were taken inside the arena.

During FTATR they threw some confetti, I grabbed a confetti and it's now a very cheap memorabilia :-) I bought the tour program hoping to have it signed by the band. They were also selling t-shirts, but no stickers, no patches, no caps :-(

I then left the Molson Centre to park somewhere else downtown, and puff a little bit from the good ol' bowl. When I came back (on foot), I finally found the bus carrying Angus, but he was already on his way and did not stop.

Last night I had only four hours of sleep, so I'm pretty tired right now. Well, this was my first "real" concert and I was very satisfied with it. It just didn't last long enough! Angus was playing some very interesting new licks, especially during BBB. He stripped but did not moon, and he was wearing AC/DC boxer shorts. No maple leaf.

And during The Jack, we didn't get to see much titties.. Which was a bit sad.

The atmosphere in the streets before the show was incredible. It was like an AC/DC festival... Loud music in the cars, lots of people wearing DC shirts, it was great.

I forgot to mention, there was beer sold in the arena, it cost me 6.50$ for one "big" beer.. Talk about ripping off people...

Sorry if my post is heavily disorganized, now I think I've said everything... The show was just incredible. I definately want to go see them a few times during the second leg (I will organize my vacation accordingly).

Rockin' in Montreal

Just came back from the show in Montreal, it kicked ass!! The thunder from down under rolled in a set of classics and a couple of new ones. If your a long time AC/DC fan, then you'll love it. They pumped out songs I never expected to here like Hell ain't a Bad Place To Be and Bad Boy Boogie.

Even here in Montreal where the aussie rockers get no radio play the place was packed and if not (then very close to) sold out. Saw my first concert back in 1986 (The Who made Who tour) and tonight after 9 years without going to an arena show, I went back to being 16 and chanting to tunes like Highway to Hell, TNT, The Jack, and saluting everyone to For those about to Rock We salute you.
