BLOW UP YOUR VIDEO (Electric Outlaws Fanzine NO: 18) ![]() This time around, I'm going to look at 1988's Blow Up Your Video of which I thought was an excellent album. The cover is good with Angus smashing television screen, giving us the message to go to a live show, which it is all about really, isn't it? 1987 had been a dull year without any AC/DC product, but they were busy in South of France, recording with the old team of Vanda and Young, who had previously handled the "Who Made Who" stuff back in '86. "Blow Up Your Video" was released on January 27th 1988, reaching no.2 in the (UK) charts, the album sounded fresh, and they were back on form. The first track "Heatseeker" was instant hit, crashing in to the charts at no.12! The video to this is good as well. To me the next track is just cheer class, "That's The Way I Wanna Rock N Roll". I love the opening riff, this could have been written in the 50's! It went down great live on the UK tour. "Meanstreak" next which has a funky type feel to it. Angus plays beautifully on this one, as with the whole album. "Go Zone" next, which has a bluesy feel to it, the lyrics are naughty as well, just ask Brian for details! "Kissin' Dynamite" rocks brilliantly, I think this would have been good live as well, I love the pace of this track. "Some Sin For uthin'" is really a heavy track to me, the intro is great to this. "Ruff Stuff" next, Malcolm's guitar just shines through on this one. As you all know, Malcolm took time off on this tour due to the problems and was replaced by nephew Stevie Young who was in the Starfighters, apparently no one noticed the difference between Malcolm and Stevie, as they look alike! "Two's Up" next, which has a certain mood to it, again intro is good to this track, the way it builds up. "This Means War" is just sheer prime time AC/DC, this song kick ass! It rips out of the speakers like a bolt of lightening! This track would be great live, that's for sure. This album was Simon Wright's last with the band, then he went on to join Dio. Overall I think this is one of AC/DC's best albums with Brian. - Ian Muddiman
Unfortunately I've not heard from Nikki for some time now , so I fear the fanclub and fanzine may no longer be active.
